Oral Conscious Sedation

An Oral sleep medication is provided prior to treatment in order to induce a moderate state of sedation. The oral sedatives dull the senses, induce sleep and have an amnesia effect. This means that most patients snooze through their procedure in comfort with little to no recollection. Usually, a dose of medication is taken prior to the appointment, and then topped off just prior to the procedure. Because Oral sedation can take a few hours to wear off, it does require having someone drive you home after your procedure.

IV Sedation

If you need complex, intensive dental work or you experience extreme dental anxiety, intravenous sedation may be the best sedation option for you. With this anesthesia, a certified nurse anesthetist will administer medication through an IV line, keeping you calm throughout your procedure. This allows us to focus our care on you while a CRNA is closely monitoring your vitals while you are under moderate sedation. Many patients don’t remember anything between the insertion of the IV and their waking up to a new smile. Because IV sedation can take a few hours to wear off, we require having someone drive you home from your procedure.
